Day 4 Jan 20

Today we got up early in order to get to the whale boats.  I had my patch for motion sickness on but not sure I needed it.  Guerrero Negro is known for its salt and mango production.  The town has a huge salt evaporation operation.  It is also a bird sanctuary. The lagoon is protected by the federal government.  The panga boat looks like an oversized rowboat.  We were 7 to a boat due to Covid restrictions  The weather was clear and beautiful.  When the boats start out, they go pretty fast and it feels  like  going over corn rows very fast and sometimes getting wet. When you see that expulsion as a whale breathes it is quite thrilling.  It is hard to photograph but I did get some nice shots.  The whales did swim by our boat very close.  We saw breaching in the distance.  So very cool!

Lunch was on the bus.  Homemade tamales. One was called a salty tamale and the other a sweet tamale.  I didn’t really like the sweet one and only ate ½ of it. The salty one was delicious.

Now we are in San Ignacio for 2 nites.  I had San Ignacio fish for supper.  It was quite good,

I tomorrow is a different lagoon for whale watching.  Then back to the place of today for a third encounter on Saturday.  Leanne was able to board the boat so she got to come along. Stay tuned for tomorrow to see if she joins us tomorrow.
